RFID badges: reliable and scalable
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) uses cards or tags that unlock the door remotely. Badges are easy to deactivate if lost. Ideal for office buildings, care facilities and apartment blocks with many users.
Biometrics: maximum convenience, higher cost
Fingerprint and facial recognition systems eliminate the risk of lost keys or badges. However, they're more expensive to purchase and maintain. False acceptance rates (FAR) and false rejection rates (FRR) are negligibly small with premium systems.
Numeric codes: practical for residential use
A code lock is cheap and easy to install. Downside: codes get shared and forgotten. For temporary access (cleaning staff, tradespeople), some systems offer time-limited codes that expire automatically.
Recommendations per context
Residential: combine a security cylinder with a smart RFID lock for everyday convenience. Professional/businesses: RFID with an access log is the standard. High-security zones: biometrics combined with a PIN code (two-factor authentication).
