What's inside a standard cylinder?
A standard cylinder consists of five to six pins made of soft brass. They offer no resistance against bumping, picking or drilling — techniques any novice burglar can master in an afternoon.
SKG*** and what it means
SKG is an independent Dutch certification body recognised by European insurers. An SKG*** cylinder has built-in anti-bump, anti-pick, anti-drill and anti-pull protection. Keys are patented and cannot be duplicated without authorisation.
Price versus value
An SKG*** cylinder costs €80–180. A single burglary causes an average of €3,500 in damage, plus the emotional impact. The payback period is therefore zero. What's more, an increasing number of insurers require a certified lock as a condition for payout.
