Multiple standards for apartment doors
In an apartment building, the front door of each unit must meet a combination of requirements. Burglary resistance (RC), fire resistance (EI), sound insulation (Rw) and airtightness for EPB purposes often all appear on the specifications list at the same time.
Fire resistance: EI30 as a minimum
Belgian fire safety regulations require a minimum EI30 rating for doors between apartments and communal areas. In taller buildings (>10 m), EI60 is required. Your architect or safety coordinator determines the exact requirement.
Sound insulation: Rw ≥ 35 dB
The Belgian acoustic standard NBN S 01-400-1 sets 35 dB as the minimum for sound insulation between apartments. Our doors achieve Rw 42–47 dB as standard, with options up to 55 dB for extra comfort.
Airtightness and EPB
Apartment doors are factored into the EPB calculation. Class 4 airtightness (EN 12207) is the standard requirement. Our doors come equipped as standard with automatic drop-down thresholds and continuous perimeter seals.
