Doors: the primary barrier
Make sure every entry door has a certified security door (minimum RC2). Check that the lock operates with multiple locking points. A standard cylinder without a security certificate can be bumped or picked in 30 seconds.
Windows and patio doors
More than 40% of burglaries happen via windows or garage doors. Standard glazing is vulnerable. Reinforce it with brush strips, anti-lever fittings, or laminated security film. Garage doors need extra attention: a standard garage door offers virtually no burglary resistance.
Outdoor lighting and sightlines
Motion sensors with LED lighting are an effective and inexpensive deterrent. Trim shrubbery that offers hiding spots at the front and back of the house. Make sure your entrance is visible to passers-by and neighbours.
Key management: the forgotten link
Spare keys under the doormat or in a flowerpot are well known to burglars. Use a certified key management system or key safe instead. Lost a key? With a patented system, unauthorised copying simply isn't possible.
